- The readings on most oven temperature knobs are approximate. Few can be read to within ±5 C
- Oven temperatures can vary between manufacturers and models
- Many ovens are hotter near the top than they are at their bases
- Fan ovens sometimes cook faster than non-fan ovens
- The gas mark ¼, ½ or 10 settings (and equivilent C °F) are not available on many ovens
- Some countries have used scales that appear similar to gas marks but do not match the UK temperatures
