  • The readings on most oven temperature knobs are approximate. Few can be read to within ±5 C
  • Oven temperatures can vary between manufacturers and models
  • Many ovens are hotter near the top than they are at their bases
  • Fan ovens sometimes cook faster than non-fan ovens
  • The gas mark ¼, ½ or 10 settings (and equivilent C °F) are not available on many ovens
  • Some countries have used scales that appear similar to gas marks but do not match the UK temperatures
