Birnbeck Pier. When this picture was taken, the pier was in poor condition. Rotton planks and structural problems had already resulted in it being closed to the public. This is the only "Low Tide" boat launch location in Weston-super-Mare and the RNLI crew kept the lifeboat station open despite the obvious pier crossing hazards. On the left of the main pier, you can see replacement planking forming a safer "track" for crew members. Unfortunately, the steady decline continued and the boats had to be moved to their current location.
