The term Great Britain includes England, Wales and Scotland. It does not include Northern Ireland.

The term United Kingdom includes England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. United Kingdom is an accepted abbreviation for "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland"

The term Crown Dependency applies to Isle of Man, Balliwick of Jersey and Balliwick of Guernsey. These are autonomous areas with their own government and legislature.

The term Channel Islands refers to the Balliwick of Jersey and Balliwick of Guernsey. (It does not include the Isle of Man.)

The British Oversees Territories include Anguilla, Bermuda, British Antarctic Territory, British Indian Ocean Territory, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, The Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Pitcairn Islands, St Helena Ascension Island & Tristan da Cunha, South Georgia & the South Sandwich islands and the Turks & Caicos Islands.

Britain mains a presence in Cyprus using the Sovereign Base areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia.
