Contacting this Website
The best method to contact any of the DigitalDan websites (including Hakin.uk, MilfordHaven.info, DigitalDan.co.uk, DigitalDan.uk, W-s-M.co.uk and DigitalDan.org.uk) is to email my email address as a scroller to minimise Spam problems Genuine emails (not SPAM) will normally be read by me within a few days and I am responsible for all the DigitalDan sites.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I phone, write or talk to the website
All these websites are run by one person (DigitalDan) as a hobby, they not a business and the sites are provided as a free community service. In the absence of any site income, the costs associated with call handling facilities cannot be justified. However, I welcome site feedback and I regularly check all genuine emails.
Can I list my Business, Event or Service on your site
If you click on the "Update this Site" button, you will see instructions for suggesting details to be included on the sites.
Can you reproduce my Publicity leaflet/poster on your site?
This is not a normal service, due to various technical problems including copyright. (Voluntary Service Organisations may be able to submit non-copyright material, see comment below.)
Can I make copies of material on your sites.
For legal reasons, the photographs, images and page text have to be declared copyright (©2000-2019 Digitaldan.co.uk) (Under UK law, photographers get automatic copyright over the images they record!)
The sites use Open Source databases (usually under Open Gov, Creative Commons, OSM or a similar licence.) These open-data sources are acknowledged on the pages using this data. Open data is data that has been made available for anyone to use. Please check with the original data source because there could be specific requirements when republishing information (e.g. source must be acknowledged and data not to be presented in a misleading manner.)
I will consider any requests to use data/photographs for which I hold copyright, provided I am contacted by email prior to its use. If you are using the material for commercial purposes I may want a commission but requests linked to local charities, VSOs or purely personal use may receive a favourable response. In the past, I have granted some "free" limited consents for academic thesis, visiting tour guides, individuals visible in photographs and not-for-profit event organisers.
I represent a Local Voluntary Service Organisation, Local non-profit club, Local Charity or Local Emergency Service, will you display our details/poster?
I have been involved in voluntary service organisations and the emergency services for many years and I am normally keen to help. If we can establish that the material is not copyright, (this may not be as easy as it sounds,) and that it would be interesting to local readers, it may be possible to publish your details (possibly free.) Email me with the details.
Tell me more about the Photograph collections
I took all the photographs on these websites. Most of them are .jpg digital images and the originals are at far higher resolution and quality than the reproductions on the site. (The quality downgrade prevents the pages taking an excessively long time to appear on your screen.) I may consider releasing a small number of "printable" quality images on reciept of an email that included a very special reason for the non-commercial request. Public viewing of the entire collection is impracticable due to the huge number of pictures. If there is one image of an event/location on any of these sites, it is likely that others exist in the master collection.
This Site is in English. Has it been translated into any other languages?
These websites operate as a free community service. There are over 100 pages (many with multiple derivative pages), and rapidly changing content. In order to generate the revenue needed to pay for translators, the site would have to charge for some services. My preferred option is to keep the sites free of charge. The DigitalDan sites are compatible with many automated on-line translation services.
What is your Cookie Policy
Cookies are small pieces of information relating to the person reading a website, they are normally stored on the viewers computer. Under "The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations," most UK websites using Cookies should make it clear why they are collecting information.
The DigitalDan Cookie Policy is - DigitalDan Websites do not use Cookies.
Why does the DigitalDan email address keep scrolling?
All web developers experience problems with junk emails, (known as SPAM.) If you display "computer readable" email addresses on a popular website the amount of unsolicited junk mail gradually becomes excessive. The scrolling email address is intended to make it harder for the SPAM-bots (email address harvesting programs,) whilst remaining readable by real people.
Hakin.uk descibes itself as a Local Information Service. What does this mean?
Local information services combine Residential and Tourist Information. In addition to the traditional Tourist Guides, Local Information sites provide additional material aimed at local residents (e.g. bin collection and public transport links.) This site supports Hakin, Milford Haven, neighbouring villages and the county of Pembrokeshire. The site operates independently with equal access for everyone. It is not affiliated to any government bodies, local authorities, national parks, tourism boards, commercial bodies or similar organisations. It is one local residents website, designed to present content that you may find interesting.
Would you be interested in purchasing our specialist Website services?
The short answer is "No." All photography, site design, back-office programming, web software engineering, etc, is undertaken by myself. I am a skilled programmer/analyst and provide my own tech support. Although I am intersted in acquiring relevant "copyright free" local information, there is no budget to pay for it.
